Toucan Diversity is very excited to be working in partnership with Noreen Moore who offers advice on accessibility.
Noreen is a qualified Disability Access Auditor and a member of the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC). Her background is Interior Design and is also a member of the Chartered Society of Designers (MCSD).
At around the age of two or three, after numerous speech and hearing tests, it was established that Noreen had an unusual type of sensorineural hearing loss in both ears.
As an Interior Design student at Portsmouth College of Art & Design, (now part of Portsmouth University) her driving force for Universal Design was always at the heart of her vision. An avid follower of the paradigms of Selwyn Goldsmith with his vision of Universal Architectural Design, she followed that route in that, all of her designs catered for people with disabilities.
Noreen worked for Portsmouth City Council, Hampshire for 30 years. Firstly as an Interior Designer with the City Architects, then as a Disability Access Auditor for the last 23 years, she explored many of the issues that make life difficult for people with disabilities. In the year 2000, she qualified as a member of the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC) Access Auditor. Whilst there, she also assisted many disabled work colleagues who had encountered difficulties with new or established disabilities, by advising on technologies available as well as making applications for Access To Work to ensure that they remained in their employment for as long as possible.
Her newly formed Disability Consultancy, MooreAccess, offer a range of services to clients’ associated with compliance with The Equality Act 2010 (DDA) looking at design of buildings; building management and management of services for disabled people. This includes Access Audits to problem identify barriers to buildings; written Design Detail Appraisal at feasibility or design submission stage in preparation for Planning Applications or Building Control Approval. This is also to guide clients’ in ensuring that they fulfill their obligations to install fully functioning Hearing Loops and hearing technologies to existing and new buildings accessible to the public.
